About CheckFollows

Last updated: October 24, 2026

CheckFollows helps you keep a record of who a public Instagram profile follows. A first paid scan saves the starting list. Later successful scans compare names, so you have something to check when the list changes. Tracking starts with that first list; it cannot recover earlier activity or explain why someone made a connection.

What the free profile preview shows

The unpaid CheckFollows preview looks up profile data, such as the public username and follower and following counts, when that data is available. It does not fetch complete named Following or Followers lists, establish a monitoring baseline, or provide a history of past changes. A count is a total; it does not identify the accounts behind a change. Use the preview to check the profile before deciding whether paid monitoring fits your question.

How the paid Following baseline works

The first successful paid complete Following scan stores a starting list for the public account. This is the Following baseline, and it creates no follow or unfollow change events. Later successful scans compare new observations with saved observations to detect differences. Starting monitoring today does not reconstruct the list from before that first successful scan, even if you noticed a count change earlier.

A possible Following-list removal needs a further valid observation before CheckFollows confirms it. If the account appears again at that observation, the earlier possible removal is not confirmed. Detection times record when changes were observed, not exact times when someone followed or unfollowed. Failed or incomplete scans can leave gaps, so an empty timeline does not prove that nothing happened between checks.

Following means the accounts a profile follows. Followers means the accounts that follow that profile. The current paid flow tracks Following. It does not currently provide incoming-follower tracking or a report of who unfollowed you. Check the plan’s refresh options, scan-credit costs and optional alerts before subscribing.

Public access and what a list cannot tell you

The standard public-handle monitoring described here does not provide access to private profiles or hidden lists. Monitoring is stopped when a scan detects that a target has become private. If a profile or list is unavailable, that is a gap in what can be observed. A public follow also does not establish private messages, profile visitors, romance, cheating, motive, danger or a customer relationship. CheckFollows does not promise that a check is undetectable, risk-free or perfectly complete.

What a timeline CSV export contains

A CheckFollows timeline CSV export requires an active subscription and a separately purchased export credit. It includes up to the 2,000 most recent recorded follow/unfollow timeline events for the account you track, excluding records that have been invalidated. Each row includes its event type, account identifiers, detection time and confirmation status. An exported row is not automatically a confirmed change; read its confirmation status when using the file.

This export contains recorded timeline events. It is not a complete Instagram account download, a full membership-list export, a customer list or a reconstruction of activity from before a baseline. The detection dates retain the same observation limits as the timeline.

What the mutual-follow comparison means

The CheckFollows mutual-follow add-on requires an active subscription and a separately purchased mutuals credit. It compares the latest stored Following snapshot for an account you track with a fresh Following scan of a second public account. The result is the accounts that appear in both Following lists. The stored snapshot and fresh scan may have different observation times, so the result is not necessarily a simultaneous view of the two lists.

Shared Following-list accounts are different from the two people following each other. This add-on does not verify reciprocal following, private contact, dating or why an account appears in either list. Choose it for the specific question of shared public follows, rather than expecting it to establish a relationship between people.

Choose the check that answers your question

For a one-time question about a named account, the Following list available to you in Instagram may be enough. Record the exact handle and when you checked if you need to compare it later. If the list is incomplete or unavailable, keep that limitation with the observation. Paid monitoring is useful for a different job: keeping a starting baseline and comparing later successful observations of an eligible public account. It will not fill in an earlier list you never recorded.

Start with the public-profile lookup to check the handle. Before paying, decide which later change you want to observe and review the current plan and any separate add-on costs.
