How to see who unfollowed you on Instagram
To see who unfollowed you on Instagram, compare a complete earlier Followers list with a complete later one. Names present earlier and absent later are the accounts to check. The current count alone can’t name them.
Maybe you have someone in mind. Maybe you just noticed the number fall and would rather know than keep wondering. Either way, another total isn’t the answer you came for.
Start with the records you actually have. Then choose the next step that can give you names, without paying for a promise of history that was never saved.
If you’re wondering about one person, check them first
Open your own Instagram profile, select Followers and search the exact username. If the account isn’t visible there now, you’ve checked the current connection. That alone doesn’t show when it ended or why.
Then check whether the profile itself is available. If it isn’t, leave that uncertainty in your notes. Don’t silently turn an unavailable account into a deliberate rejection.
Your Following list answers a different question: who you follow. Seeing someone there doesn’t mean they follow you back. Use Followers when checking whether someone is part of your incoming audience.
Compare the names, not just the totals
If you have a complete dated earlier list, keep it and make a separate later copy. Compare the usernames in the two records. Don’t overwrite the first one before you’ve finished.
For an illustrative example, your earlier record contains Account A and Account B. Your later complete record contains Account B and Account C. Account A is missing from the later list; Account C has appeared. An unchanged total of two would have hidden both differences.
Check a missing name again if the result matters. An incomplete load or unavailable account can affect what you see. The two records give you a comparison window, not an exact unfollow timestamp or a reason.
If you don’t have an old list, start with today
Instagram’s information download may provide account information you can use for your own review. Follow the current Accounts Center download process and inspect the files you receive. Don’t assume they contain a complete record of everyone who ever unfollowed you.
Keep dated copies if you want to compare later. A single current export can help with current membership, but it doesn’t automatically supply a missing earlier list.
If your record is only a count or a partial screenshot, mark the missing names as unknown. Starting a clearer record now can help with a future change. It won’t make the earlier gap disappear.
Before paying, ask which list the tool records
Ask for a named Followers comparison and when its first complete record will exist. Check whether the service shows additions and losses from that point, and how it flags missing or incomplete results.
CheckFollows’ current paid flow records public Following changes: who a profile follows. It does not currently provide the incoming-follower tracking described in this guide. Its timeline export does not supply a full historical unfollower list.
You came here for a specific answer. For one current connection, start in Instagram. For a future named-unfollower report, choose a service that actually records Followers. Understanding that difference before paying is more useful than getting a polished report about the wrong list.
Frequently asked questions
Can I recover an unfollower from before I saved any lists?+
Not from the count alone. You need a usable earlier record to compare, and a new tracker cannot recreate a record it never collected.
Does “not following back” mean they unfollowed me?+
No. It can mean they never followed you. To establish a change, you need evidence they appeared in an earlier Followers list.
Can CheckFollows currently do this for my followers?+
No. Its current paid journey tracks public Following changes. Incoming-follower tracking is not currently available in that flow.
