Does CheckFollows need your Instagram password?
No. CheckFollows never asks for your Instagram password and never collects or stores Instagram credentials or access tokens. You only type the public username you want to check.
Short answer: no. CheckFollows works from public Instagram information, so it has no reason to log in as you. You sign up with an email address, not an Instagram account, and our Privacy Policy states that we don't collect or store Instagram credentials or access tokens.
If any tracker asks for your Instagram password, don't give it. A tool that only reads public profiles doesn't need it, and handing it over gives a third party full control of your account.
What you give CheckFollows
- The public username you want to track.
- An email address for your CheckFollows account.
- Payment details, entered with Stripe, not stored by CheckFollows.
Why no password means it only works on public accounts
Because CheckFollows never logs in as anyone, it can only see what's visible publicly. A private account's lists are visible only to its approved followers, and CheckFollows can't read them. If an account turns private, tracking stops.
Red flags in other trackers
- Asking for your Instagram password or a login code.
- Asking you to log in with Instagram to track someone else's public account.
- Promising to see private accounts. No legitimate tool can.
